Our brokers are some of the best in the business (ok, they are the very best but we could be a little biased!) Here’s a brief bio on each of your professional broker staff:
Kathy Kenney, Broker
Kathy has worked for Johnston & Mackie since 1976, representing the Village of Beachburg at the office!
Although she was born in Pembroke, Kathy was raised in Beachburg and has chosen to make that home. She and her husband have a farm where they raised their children and now host their grandchildren.
Kathy’s passion is contributing to her community. She is an active volunteer with the annual Beachburg Fair and her church’s Sunday School program. When she talks about work, Kathy says “it’s always nice when you find a company that is aligned with the same personal values that you have, and it’s even nicer when you get to work with that company for as long as I have.”
Donna Roggie, Broker
Born and raised in Pembroke, Donna did what many people do after high school – she left for the “big city.” In Ottawa, she worked for the Department of Agriculture for a few years and then realized that her hometown had more to offer than she thought in high school.
Donna moved back to the area to work with the Renfrew County Board of Education before being offered a full-time position with Johnston & Mackie. She is our most experienced broker. Donna spends her leisure time outdoors from boating to ice fishing, and with children and grandchildren.
Kelly Simon, Broker
Kelly was born and raised in Pembroke and attended Algonquin College in Ottawa, pursuing the insurance broker program. She started her insurance work with Economical Mutual Insurance Company, a company that is represented here at Johnston & Mackie.
After 18 years at the company level, Kelly moved back to Pembroke and transitioned into a brokerage role with Johnston & Mackie. Being a broker has provided her with the opportunity to become more involved with her hometown, and work in a more personable part of the industry.
Kelly and her husband have a daughter and a very active Golden Retriever! They have a family cottage at Round Lake, a popular spot in the Ottawa Valley.
Carolyn O’Hara, Broker
The youngest of three girls and raised on a family farm near Eganville, Carolyn attended Opeongo High School and then pursued Business & Travel at Seneca College in Toronto. She moved back to Pembroke in May 1989.
She started working with Johnston & Mackie after moving back to the area, and a year later found herself pursuing her licensing to become a Registered Insurance Broker. Her specialization is in Personal Lines insurance and office administration.
1989 was also when she met her husband, Jim. They married on Valentine’s Day and currently live in Laurentian Valley. Carolyn is an avid reader and scrapbooker.
Tara Neville, Broker
The only broker not to be born in the local area, Tara was born in Ottawa, and moved to Pembroke when she was eight years old. Tara returned to Ottawa for a two-year Communications program before joining PriceWaterhouse and working in their data analysis division of the management consulting company.
Tara has been married to her husband, Scott, since 1991, and they have three children. She stayed at home with their children until the oldest was 12 years old, and found that she wanted to go back into the workforce. Tara started at Johnston & Mackie part-time, and decided to make it a new career!
In 2005, Tara became a licensed broker. She feels fortunate to have found a line of work that she truly loves, and that allows her to be a part of the lives of so many really great people.
